Poly B Replacement
Poly-B (polybutylene) was a common type of plumbing material used to supply hot and cold water in residential and commercial buildings built between 1978-1995. It was a reliable and lightweight option for many plumbing projects. Poly-B plumbing was much cheaper than copper piping, and it was installed in over 700,000 Canadian homes.

Poly-B piping is generally a light grey plastic pipe with copper fittings and elbows. You can easily identify if your home’s plumbing has Poly-B fittings by removing a few ceiling tiles in your basement or by checking in your mechanical room and viewing the grey pipes in the ceiling of your basement. If the pipes are grey plastic with copper connections, it is likely that your home has Poly-B. If your piping is red and blue plastic, it is not Poly-B.

Poly-B pipes are susceptible to failure and have been known to burst and leak, causing water damage. As homes begin to age, more problems arise with this type of piping, causing devastating effects to many homes. Subsequent insurance claims can take years to resolve, and that is subject to if your home insurance policy will even cover the claim. Poly-B plumbing has been through so many class action lawsuits that many insurance companies will not cover you at all if this piping fails, or they will refuse to insure you until you have it replaced.

Tankless Hot Water Service

Drain Cleaning
At ACE Plumbing and Heating we offer two main types of drain cleaning. For larger strata corporations, such as condo or apartment buildings, we offer preventative maintenance drain cleaning which can be done on an annual basis. This includes using an auger or jet cleaner to clean out vertical and horizontal plumbing lines to prevent emergency blockages. The second type of drain cleaning would be using the same auger and jetting system to clear blockages. It's important to note that in some cases, such as when roots have entered the system, the drain cleaning would only be a temporary solution, eventually the pipes will need to be replaced.
Back Flow Testing
Many commercial and residential plumbing systems have a back flow prevention system. A type of safety valve, back flow preventers help to ensure that any contaminated water does not enter the main water system. If you have a back flow preventer, it may require regular scheduled inspection to ensure it is functioning properly. In the City of Kelowna, there are specific requirements for testing your back flow preventer. You are required to use someone that is certified to test your back flow preventer and at ACE Plumbing and Heating, we have several technicians with this qualification.
